Film Session: Where things went wrong offensively against New York

The New York Giants , despite their circumstances, continue to plague Washington. The Giants swept the Commanders this year without Daniel Jones, who is 5-1 against Washington in his career, winning with backups Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito. Since 2013, the Giants are 15-6-1 overall against Washington, so despite the Commanders unquestionably being the better team heading into Sunday’s matchup, the outcome was unfortunately on par with how history played out in recent years.

The Commanders offense was hamstrung by an abundance of self-inflicted mistakes, turning the ball over five times, and six overall with a fumble on a kick return, too. Even still, the offense managed to generate 400 yards with a chance to win the game on their final drive. While turnovers are the ultimate reason the game was lost offensively, there were mistakes and missed opportunities in critical moments from the offense worth examining.

With the evaluation of Sam Howell taking priority for this season, we take a look at the day he had against the New York Giants in this film session. While Sam had good moments against New York, his overall performance indicated the inconsistencies that most hope he ultimately overcomes as he grows as a starting quarterback.
