‘Finding ways’: Nielson reflects on UND win
VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — The USD football team hadn't beaten North Dakota in Grand Forks since 1985, but they changed that Saturday with a 42-36 win over the Fighting Hawks.
The Coyotes found themselves in a 14 point hole early in the second quarter. USD would score 42 of the next 49 points to take the lead and build a 21 point lead.
Charles Pierre Jr. was dynamic in the win, tallying 278 total yards and two touchdowns.
The come from behind win also marked Bob Nielson's 50th career victory at USD.
"Really proud of our guys for finding ways. When we needed big drives, we made big drives. When we needed stops there in the third quarter, we got stops," Nielson said.
USD will now play Saturday against NDSU, with a chance to earn part of the Missouri Valley regular season crown.
