Fire in Mexico Road home leaves three homeless
Nov. 1—POTTSGROVE — A man, woman and child are homeless, but uninjured, after a Friday morning fire at 1000 Mexico Road, East Chillisquaque Township.
Two pets were also unharmed.
First call was at 11:15 a.m., Seth Heddings, assistant fire chief, Milton Fire Department said
"When we got there this was a working fire with flames shooting out of the attic and roof," Heddings said.
One of the residents, Mike Stephens, was at home with a child when he saw smoke. His girlfriend was at work. He told Heddings he thinks the fire started in the kitchen area.
"I smelled and saw smoke. I immediately got out and everyone was safe," he said.
There will have to be a new roof," Heddings said. "And there was significant water damage inside."
Stephens said the three of them would be able to stay with relatives.
Personnel and equipment from several regional fire companies assisted the Milton Fire Department at the scene, Heddings said, including personnel from Pottsgrove, Lewisburg, Danville, Turbot Township, White Deer Township, Warrior Run, Liberty Township and Mahoning Township.
Heddings and Stephens stood outside watching fire personnel clean up the area and check for hot spots at around 12:30.
One lane of traffic on Mexico Road had been closed off briefly at the scene.
The cause of the fire is unknown. A fire marshal has been called in to investigate, Heddings said.
