Firefighter suffers injuries while on scene of Wheatfield fire

Sep. 22—A firefighter from Frontier Volunteer Fire Co. was injured while on the scene of a fire at 2164 River Road early Sunday morning.

The fire was reported about 1:30 a.m. with arriving deputies reporting heavy black smoke coming from a detached garage. Nearby residents were evacuated for their safety.

While on the scene the Frontier volunteer suffered a presumed medical emergency and fell down a flight of stairs. The 41-year-old man was taken to Erie County Medical Center by Tri-Community Ambulance and was expected to recover.

There was no property damage estimate available and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Niagara County Fire Investigation Unit.
