First Commuter Parking Garage In Prince William County Opens
The Neabsco-Potomac Commuter Garage is a park-and-ride garage with 1,400 spaces at 2450 Neabsco Stream Drive in Woodbridge near Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. There are 70 electric vehicle charging stations at the garage.
According to the county, the project seeks to address capacity issues at the Route 1/Route 234 and Horner Road commuter lots. Design had started in March 2022, and construction wrapped up this October. WTOP reported that commuters could park for free starting this past weekend.
"We no longer have the land available, and as we continue to develop in this county, I think that an option of growing up, instead of growing across, is much better," said Rick Canizales, Prince William County's transportation director, via WTOP.
The parking garage will be a hub for OmniRide bus service to provide an option for commuters during peak travel times along the Route 1, Interstate 95 and Route 234 corridors. On Dec. 9, OmniRide's Woodbridge -Navy Yard 563 route will discontinue service to the OmniRide Transit Center and Potomac Mills Commuter Lot, Telegraph Lot, and Horner Road Lot and instead serve the new Neabsco-Potomac garage. Other routes stopping at the garage starting on Dec. 9 are the Prince William Metro Express 95 route, East-West Express 96 route, Route 1 (52) Dumfries Connector 53 route, Dale City 91 route and Lake Ridge Connector 94 route.
The garage can also serve as alternate parking for nearby locations like Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. A new sidewalk has been added along River Rock Way to serve pedestrians.
The $54.6 million project received $45 million in federal funds, $3 million from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority and $3 million in state funding.
