Flooding causing I-44 to close expected to crest Weds. P.M.
As rivers, creeks, and streams continue to swell, flooding is an ongoing issue across the eastern parts of the Ozarks. Currently, flooding has shut down I-44 between mile markers 162 and 184 near Rolla. The Gasconade River near Jerome is expected to crest Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service expects the Gasconade at Jerome to come very close to cresting at 29′, which could cause impacts on I-44 near mile marker 172. Flooding between 25′-30′ is considered moderate, anything over 30′ is considered major flooding.
Thanks to extremely dry conditions, 48 hours ago the Gasconade River at Jerome was measuring at 2′ deep. Currently, the Gasconade is at 26′.
