Gators Online has assembled a list of potential candidates to replace Spencer. We will continue to update this list as additional candidates both emerge or need to be removed from our list.

Florida Gators defensive line coaching board Mark Ivey – Louisville

A native of Collinsville, Virginia, Ivey attended Appalachian State where he played football. After his playing career was over he made his way to Florida where he coached the offensive and defensive line at Port Charlotte High School (1996). He coached at several Florida high schools before returning to his alma mater in 2012. Ivery coached outside linebacker and special teams from 2012-13. He moved to coaching the defensive line from 2014-2018 and was named the interim head coach when Scott Satterfield left Appalachian State for Louisville.

Ivey was officially named the defensive line coach at Louisville in 2019, rejoining Satterfield. In 2023, Ivey elected to remain with Louisville under new coach Jeff Brohm as linebackers coach. Ivey moved from coaching the defensive line to coaching linebackers prior to the 2023 season.

Charlie Partridge – Pittsburgh

Partridge is in his seventh season on Pat Narduzzi’s staff at Pitt. He’s a native of Plantation, Fla., who also has had coaching stops at schools such as Arkansas and Wisconsin. He is known both for his recruiting and development. Per his official bio at Pitt, “Partridge was instrumental in one of the best five-year runs in Wisconsin history from 2008-12. Initially serving as defensive line and specialist coach, he was elevated to associate head coach and co-defensive coordinator for his final two seasons. The Badgers won three consecutive Big Ten titles from 2010-12. His most accomplished pupil was defensive end J.J. Watt.

Elijah Robinson – Texas A&M

Robinson, 38, is the interim head coach at Texas A&M and has served on that staff since 2018. He’s a New Jersey native who played on the offensive and defensive lines at Penn State. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Penn State in 2009. Additionally, Robinson has been a defensive line coach at Baylor and Temple. With the Aggies, he has been a strong recruiter and noted developer of defensive line talent. Robinson was promoted to assistant head coach/ run game coordinator in 2022 after four seasons as Aggies’ defensive line coach.

Rory Segrest – Jacksonville Jaguars

Segreset is his first season in Jacksonville (he’s the assistant defensive line coach) and sixth overall in the NFL. But he has coached many years in college, including from 2018-21 at Louisiana under then-coach Billy Napier as the team’s defensive line coach/assistant head coach. When Napier hired Segrest, he said, “Rory Segrest brings a wealth of experience and character to our staff,” Napier said. “He is a technician and proven developer of talent. Having played against his players at Arkansas, I know exactly what we are getting in this hire. His experience in the NFL and SEC will be insightful for our players as well.” In 2021, his defensive line accounted for 29.5 sacks and Louisiana ranked ninth in the country in points allowed (18.3). He’s a Georgia native, played for Alabama’s 1992 national championship team and has SEC experience. Worth noting: Segrest once was a special teams quality control assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chris Rumph – Minnestoa Vikings

Rumph currently is the defensive line coach of the Vikings but has a strong college resume. And, he coached the defensive line at Florida from 2015-17. In his final season with the Gators, Rumph added the role of co-defensive coordinator. He also has made stops at well-known college programs such as Alabama, Clemson, and Texas. Rumph, 51, has been in the NFL since 2020 with three different teams. This is his second season with Minnesota.
