Former Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater set to have jersey honored during Miami game
One of the greatest players ever to suit up for will be honored on Saturday in their game against Miami. Former Miami Northwestern (Miami, Florida) star Teddy Bridgewater will get to see his jersey rest among the all-time greats at the school. His No. 5 jersey will be added to the honored jerseys at L&N Stadium in Louisville.
The Cardinals will have a special jersey ceremony for the event. During his time with Louisville, Teddy Bridgewater cemented himself as one of the greatest to ever suit up there, guiding his team to a BCS bowl game. He was also named MVP of the 2013 Sugar Bowl and the 2013 Russell Athletics Bowl.
In 2013, Bridgewater completed 71% of his passes for 3,970 yards, while tossing in 31 touchdowns with four interceptions. As a runner, he had 63 carries for 78 yards and one touchdown. In 2012, the Florida native completed 68.5% of his passes for 3,718 yards, while tossing in 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions. As a runner, he had one rushing touchdown. He brought home Big East Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2012.
In his final game in the Sugar Bowl against the Florida Gators, Bridgewater went up against the nation's No. 1 ranked pass efficiency defense. He threw for 266 passing yards and two touchdowns, winning MVP honors in the 33-23 victory.
Bridgewater peppered his name all over the record books for Louisville, finishing with 9,817 career passing yards. That ranks him as the third all-time leading passer in Cardinals' football history. He's only behind Chris Redman (12,541 passing yards) and Brian Brohm (10,775 passing yards). In single-season passing yardage he had two seasons that rank in the top four in program history: (3,970 yards–2013) and (3,718 yards-2012). Those seasons ranked third and fourth in Cardinal football history, respectively.
In the NFL, Bridgwater wasn't nearly as successful as he was in college. But he did manage three seasons in which he threw for over 3,000 yards (2015, 2020, and 2021), bringing home Pro Bowl honors in 2015. His best season came with the Carolina Panthers, where he completed 69.1% of his passes for 3,733 passing yards, while tossing in 15 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. From 2014-2023, he played in 79 total games, completing 66.4% of his passes for 15,120 total passing yards, while tossing in 75 touchdowns with 47 interceptions.
Bridgewater is currently the head football coach at the place where he once starred in his high school days–Miami Northwestern.
