Former treasurer for Harrisburg social club accused of embezzling $20k+

(WHTM) — A former treasurer for a Harrisburg social club is accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars over the course of a few months, according to police.

Adrian Johnson, 38, of Harrisburg stole a total of $24,537.41 from the social club while he was the treasurer from Sept. 4 2022 to Jan. 12 2023, charging documents from Harrisburg City Police state.

Johnson worked at The Der Harrisburg Maennerchor, a social club located in downtown Harrisburg. According to its website , it was founded in 1867 and is known as the city's oldest social club.

The Maennerchor donates money to charities that support veterans, children with disabilities, the hungry and homeless, the public library, student athletes and more, according to its website.

It is alleged that when Johnson was confronted about the missing money, he resigned from his role, police said in the charges.

Online court documents show that charges against Johnson were actually filed in June but they were dismissed. Police then refiled charges on Oct. 4.

Johnson faces two felony charges of theft.

Johnson is out on unsecured bail set at $20,000 and he awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 6.
