Foster grandparents receive awards

The local Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming Counties and federally funded by the Corporation for National Service, recently hosted its 42nd anniversary and recognition luncheon at the Genetti Hotel and Conference Center, Wilkes-Barre. The theme of this year’s luncheon was ‘Foster Grandparents Are Shining Stars.’ Special awards were presented to individuals who have served for five, 10, 15 and 20 years. Each 20-year honoree received a woven afghan depicting the FGP logo. Foster Grandparents are individuals age 55 or older that have a limited income and a desire to work with children. For 20 hours per week of service they are entitled to many benefits, including monetary compensation.The program is recruiting new members.
