Four area teams advance in playoffs

The playoffs have arrived and The Independent area is now down to four teams left playing postseason football.

Central City, Central Valley, Riverside and Wood River all moved on in the playoffs, while Doniphan-Trumbull, Hastings, Northwest and Ord's season's ended on Friday.

Central City beat Fort Calhoun 49-14 in its first home playoff game since 2015. Central Valley beat St. Mary's 72-26, w hile Riverside got by Creighton 84-46. Wood River won its first playoff game since 1996 over Doniphan-Trumbull 41-30.

McCook defeated Hastings 34-21. Hastings ended its season with a 6-4 record. Northwest lost to Bennington 41-7 and ended its season with a 4-6 record. Ord lost to Norfolk Catholic 33-8 and finished the season with a 4-6 record. Doniphan-Trumbull ended its season with a 7-3 record.

All area playoff games will take place on Friday. In the second round of the playoffs Central City will play at 7 p.m. at Columbus Lakeview. Wood River will host Kearney Catholic at 7 p.m. Central Valley hosts Wynot at 6 p.m. in Wolbach. Riverside will play at 5 p.m. on the road at Sandhills-Thedford.
