MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - Best Buy management reported Sept. 23 that a man exchanged a fake cell phone for a new phone and was also given $129 for the difference in cost.

They said the man bought a $1,400 phone from the store around 1:45 p.m. He returned to the store about 30 minutes later and returned the phone for another model. At that time, they did not notice that he had carefully opened and removed the first phone from box and replaced it with a fake phone.

They then learned that possibly the same man had gone to the Best Buy Mentor location and tried to return another fake phone with the receipt from the Mayfield Heights location.

At the time of the report, Mentor police had arrested four people involved in the theft. One was the suspect from the theft in Mayfield Heights. The Michigan man, 22, was found to be reported as missing person out of Detroit.

Charges for theft by deception and unlawful use of a communication device were filed against him.
