The Fremont Family YMCA and local nonprofit Aspire for Greatness have announced a collaboration that will expand youth development opportunities in the Fremont community.

This partnership marks will address the needs of fifth grade through high school students in Fremont and surrounding areas, according to a news release.

The Fremont Family YMCA, known for its comprehensive kindergarten and above afterschool programs, recognized a critical gap in services for older youth.

"We saw an opportunity to extend our impact to middle and high school students," Fremont Family YMCA COO Tim Benson said in a news release. "Partnering with Aspire for Greatness allows us to fulfill this vital need in our community."

Founded in 2020 by Dave Hahn and community members, Aspire for Greatness is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to mentoring and enriching the lives of students from fifth through 12th grade, and up to age 19. The organization offers one-to-one mentoring and structured out-of-school time programs year-round.

According to Aspire's website, "the foundation of the programming will be anchored to biblical truth, helping the participants realize their worth and purpose. Teaching the participants that they are wonderfully made by God, with specific talents and gifts, and created on purpose for a purpose."

This new collaboration will provide Aspire participants and their families with expanded opportunities to connect to health, wellness and physical activities through the additional programs offered at the Y.

Both organizations are dedicated to ensuring families in the community are plugged into programs that help meet their needs and promote human connection and well-being. This new partnership will allow both organizations to combine resources to meet those needs intentionally and strategically, according to the news release.

"The collaboration between Aspire and the Y is a game-changer for our community," said Kristen Widman, executive director of Aspire for Greatness. "With the YMCA's state-of-the-art facilities and our proven programs, we can offer an unparalleled experience for older youth."

The Fremont Family YMCA offers an array of amenities that will significantly enhance Aspire's programming, including gymnasium facilities for sports and physical activities, multipurpose rooms for group activities and workshops, and access to certified fitness instructors and youth development professionals.

Aspire's free structured enrichment program for the 2024-25 school year began on Aug. 19. The program runs Monday through Friday on Fremont Public Schools days, from after school until 5:45 pm.

Free transportation is provided to and from the program for families in need. The program is open to fifth graders through high school students, including homeschooled youth ages 12-19, and there is no cost to participate in the Aspire program.

Families interested in enrolling their children or learning more about the program can visit aspirefremont.org for information and registration details.
