The Missoula County Sheriff's Office has identified a motorcyclist who died Saturday after hitting a guardrail on Interstate 90 near Frenchtown.

George M. Stevens, 24, was a Frenchtown resident, according to Missoula County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jeannette Smith. The initial Montana Highway Patrol report had listed the victim's residence as Missoula.

Stephens was headed east and "failed to negotiate a right-hand curve" about 3 miles west of the Frenchtown exit, according to the MHP crash report. The crash occurred at 3:30 p.m.

He struck the median cable barrier and was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states. The man was wearing a helmet.

"The Missoula County Sheriff's Office extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends during this difficult time," Smith wrote in a message Wednesday.
