Friday crash involving two trucks on Interstate 81 results in fatality

A crash between two trucks on Interstate 81 resulted in the death of one of the drivers Friday, Virginia State Police reported Monday.
The crash occurred at 4:25 p.m. Friday southbound at the 133-mile interstate marker in Roanoke County.
A 1998 International 4700 struck a 2022 Freightliner tractor trailer in the rear, according to a state police news release.
The driver of the International was identified as Jerry A. Mailhoit Sr., 67, of Crossville, Tenn. Mailhoit was wearing his seatbelt and was flown from the scene to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to the release.
The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
