Sending Procedure:

Email is the preferable method for receiving Obituaries (and the only method on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays), they can be sent to (Feel free to call and confirm that we've received the email)

Formatting:

Obituaries will continue to visually look the same as they currently do, but you will no longer be restricted in what you can say (ex. As much Family can be listed as you'd like; Wording like "Went to rest with the Lord" is now permissible)

Other:

There is a cost for each obituary. Pricing and payments are only available Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. All weekend and holiday submissions will be provided a cost the next business day.

Exceptions:

All New accounts, Out of State Funeral Homes and Private Parties will require prepayment upon approval of the obituary. Weekend and Holiday staff are not authorized to set up a new account or process payments

Deadline for the above is before 4:00 PM Mon – Fri. only (Holiday schedules may vary).

Prepayment required submissions will be handled on the very first business day following the weekend and/or holiday schedule. A complete name, address and best contact phone number are required upon submittal of your obituary request to set up your account. A proof will then be emailed for review but placed on hold until payment is received.

NETHER PROVIDENCE — The Community Arts Center will present its final Friday Night Live concert, featuring a tribute to Tina Turner by vocalist Lisa Chavous.

The event is Friday, Nov. 22 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in CAC's Duke Gallery, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for seating. The band will perform two sets with a brief intermission.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own food and beverages. All ages are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Guests must be 21 years old to bring or consume alcohol.

Indoor, single person restrooms will be available during the event. No pets are permitted.

Chavous will celebrate the music of iconic performer Tina Turner.

Chavous was born and raised in Sharon Hill, where she began singing in local church choirs and family gatherings at the age of 5.

In 1989 she began performing with the group Chapter One in banquet halls such as The Twelve Caesars and the Riviera Ballroom. Since 1999 she has been a prolific vocalist and bandleader, performing in restaurants, ballrooms, country clubs, and other major venues throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, surrounding states and abroad.

Chavous has performed with jazz greats Byard Lancaster, Odean Pope, Trudy Pitts, Pat Martino, Jimmy McGriff and Bootsie Barnes, and is regularly backed by former members of Patti LaBelle's band, as well as by Don Evans, former guitarist for Billy Joel.

Chavous' forte is her talent for versatility in singing jazz, blues, and rhythm and blues, all with tons of soul that projects her sincere love and devotion to the music.

The Community Arts Center operates on the belief that the arts are essential to human development and the well-being of society. CAC is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for artists at all levels of their creative journey, encouraging participation in the arts through advocacy, education, and outreach, and serving as a vital creative resource for the community.

Admission to the Friday Night Live concert is $10 for Community Arts Center members and free to CAC benefactors, $5 for children age 12 and under, and $15 for all the others not falling into those categories

PCS Theater presents Taylor Swift edition of teen karaoke night

PCS Theater is calling all Delco Swifties to its teen Taylor Swift-themed karaoke night on Friday, Nov. 16 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Second Stage at PCS Theater, Fairview Road, Swarthmore,

The event is geared to teens, ages 13 to 18. Hosted by DJ Sean Patrick, The teen karaoke night promises a high-energy evening of music, fun and friendship as teens take the mic to belt out their favorite Taylor Swift hits in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

Teens can meet new friends, trade friendship bracelets, and test their knowledge with Taylor trivia questions, sprinkled throughout the evening.

Admission is $10. The venue has limited capacity, so guests are recommended to purchase tickets soon. Light refreshments will be available for purchase in the lobby.

Author Dolores Cook Raisch will visit the Ridley Township Public Library, 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom, to discuss her book, "To Vietnam and Back, 1967- 1968," at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25.

"To Vietnam and Back" is an intimate family memoir that, through a lifeline of letters, offers a unique and warmly told story about one soldier and his family, and the war's impact. Dolores' brother, the late Bud Cook, spent a year in Vietnam, while his family anxiously awaited his return.

Haverford Guild of Craftsmen's holiday art and fine craft show to feature over 60 talented artists

The Haverford Guild of Craftsmen invites the public to its 2024 Holiday Art and Fine Craft Show, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Haverford Community Recreation and Environmental Center, 9000 Parkview Drive, Haverford Township.

The show will feature over 60 talented artists and fine craftsmen, providing an opportunity.

Visitors can explore a diverse array of high-quality, hand-crafted items, including basketry, ceramics, glass, fiber, jewelry, leather, mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture, wood, and much more. The Haverford Guild of Craftsmen encourages attendees to support local artisans while finding special items for the holiday season.

Aston Lions Club invites community to pancake breakfast

The Aston Lions Club will hold a Pancake Breakfast, 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon Sunday, Nov. 10 at Aston Township Community Center, 3270 Concord Rd., Aston Township. Cost is $10, adults; $5 for children 12 and under; and free for children under 2-years-old.

All profits will benefit those in need through the Lions Club charities.

Swarthmore Library's book and bake sale features $5 stuff-a-bag special

The Fall Book and Bake sale, conducted by the Friends of the Swarthmore Public Library, takes place in Swarthmore Borough Hall at 121 Park Ave.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Prices range from $1 to $2 for books in many categories: fiction, mystery, biography, cooking, travel, gardening, history, children, young adult and more.

In the Booktique room, there are individually priced collectible books and recently published books. On Saturday, the price is $5 for a bag of books, excluding the ones in the Booktique Room and the bookshop. The bookshop will be open on Friday but closed on Saturday.

St. Joe's Aston to hold Christmas bazaar

St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 3255 Concord Road, Aston will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 23. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Santa will be stopping by for photos from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Children can also enjoy games galore at Kids' Korner. Aston Township Historical Society to hold show-and-tell

The Aston Township Historical Society (ATHS) is having a "Something old, something historic, something Interesting or unique to share" get-together at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Aston Community Center, Concord Road in Aston.

Everyone has items in their attic, basement or on a shelf that would be fun to talk about with others who have an interest in everything old.

To attend, select something, dust it off, and bring it to share with ATHS members and guests. Funny, spooky or remembrance stories will be appreciated. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Delco Helping Hands to host big prize bingo Saturday

Delco Helping Hands will host a big prize bingo fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 9 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the games begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 at the door, if still available. Everyone who brings an unopened bottle of wine, unopened liquor or unopened six pack of beer will receive an extra packet of games. The bottles will be raffled off.

McClinton and Young to honor local veterans with luncheon

Pennsylvania House Speaker Joanna McClinton and state Rep. Regina Young, (both Philadelphia/Delaware), will host their annual Salute to Veterans: A Legacy of Loyalty and Service event from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at the PAL Center, 5900 Elmwood Ave., Philadelphia.

The representatives said attendees will receive lunch and be recognized for their service. There will also be information available on state programs like the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program and LIHEAP.

Media Fellowship House strengthens community bonds with monthly porch party potlucks

The community is invited to the monthly Porch Party Potluck, a new initiative at Media Fellowship House to strengthen community bonds, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.

These gatherings, held every third Thursday of the month, offer a welcoming space where community members can enjoy good food, fun activities and meaningful conversations.

With a main dish, games, and supplies provided, guests are encouraged to bring sides, desserts, and drinks to share, fostering a relaxed environment for building connections and exploring opportunities for community involvement.
