MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) - Good morning, mid-Michigan, we made it to Friday! We hope you are enjoying the morning so far. If you are getting up with us, here are five stories to know.

  • Michigan State Police (MSP) shared more details on a deadly officer-involved shooting of a teen in Flint. Police said two troopers came across 17-year-old Rayvon Shahid, who was walking on Essex near Pasadena. Troopers told him to stop and drop his gun, but ran. State police said troopers tried using its taser on him, then shot him. They gave first-aid until he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
  • Michigan has a deer population of around two million and almost 44-percent of deer crashes happen in the months of October, November and December. Genesee County is third in the state for deer crashes, behind Kent and Oakland counties. Last year, deer vs car crashes injured more than 1,000 people, killed 19 and caused more than $130 million in damage.
  • For the first time in U.S. history, a woman is set to be the White House Chief of Staff. President-elect Donald Trump said he's giving the job to his 2024 campaign manager, Susie Wiles. She's a seasoned republican strategist and one of Trump's longest-serving advisors. He credits her with helping him win his reelection and said she'll make the country proud.
  • Voters in Isabella County rejected a sheriff's road patrol millage on Tuesday. Twenty-two deputies will now lose their jobs in the new year. The pending cuts come after the county budget was found to be millions in debt, prompting the proposal to save the positions. In an online post, Shepherd Police Department's Chief, Luke Sawyer, said fewer patrols will mean more crime, more crashes and a decrease in your safety.
  • In Saginaw, you can check out tonight's edition of the Silver Screen Series they'll be showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Temple Theater. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, you can buy them here .
