Future Broncos: Offense should be Denver’s 2025 NFL Draft priority

With a tough road game ahead of them tomorrow against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , the Denver Broncos are on the verge of starting another season 0-3.

The team has a lot of talent holes on the roster, but after two games it's clear the franchise desperately needs a spark on the offensive side of the ball at multiple positions. As of now, they are 29th in points scored and 28th in total yards. It is certainly possible for things to get better but count me in as someone has some significant concerns with the direction on that side of the ball.

If the Broncos can't find a way to win in Florida, the prospect of a Top 10 draft pick—perhaps even higher—becomes a realistic possibility.

Let's face it, the Broncos' offense has been a dud. The run game has been disastrous and predictable. The wide receivers seem to have a bad case of the drops. On top of that, their highly paid offensive line has struggled mightily.

It's tough for rookie quarterbacks to acclimate to the rigors and challenges of the National Football League, but it's nearly impossible when the surrounding cast doesn't play with any consistency. If Bo Nix is going to have a legitimate shot at being a quality starter he is going to need some friends.

Even though the Broncos moved up for Marvin Mims Jr. in the 2023 NFL Draft , Mims has been absent from the team's passing plans early on in 2024. I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. He earned Pro Bowl honors as a returner, flashed on some big plays in '23, and had quality collegiate tape. I'm hoping things change with his trajectory, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Troy Franklin and Devaughn Vele are also in the fold, but that shouldn't preclude the Broncos from drafting a dynamic receiver if available. Veteran Josh Reynolds will be with the team next year, but longtime receiver Courtland Sutton's future is less certain. Due to various restructures, Sutton's salary cap hit for 2025 is just over $20 million dollars. That's a figure I can't see the Broncos playing relative to his production over the past several seasons.

Right now, three draft eligible receivers that stand above the rest: Missouri's Luther Burden III, Colorado's Travis Hunter, and Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan. All of them are sure fire first-round selections with a good shot all three go in the Top 10—presumably where the Broncos will be picking if they don't find a way to win.

The first two have the speed and athleticism to take it to the house any time they touch the ball. They'd add a much-needed spark to the passing game. When's the last time the Broncos had a player like them? It's been a while.

As for McMillan. he has the size and physicality Sean Payton covets. The best part? He always seems to open. There's no doubt he has the ability to earn #1 volume share in any offense. I think he'd be a great target for Nix to have in the Mile High City.

If it isn't one of those guys, then I'd prioritize finding a franchise tackle. LSU star Will Campbell or Texas product Kelvin Banks Jr. would be fine picks. Either would address a long-term need at one of the game's most important positions.

There's a lot of football left to play, but I'd still bet on offense being the area for them to address when April arrives.
