FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A mission to bring household pets from the kennels to loving homes.

Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (FWACC) makes the adoption process easier for local families and individuals to adopt a 'fur'-ever best friend.

FWACC is partnered with BISSELL Pet Foundation for the annual "Empty the Shelters" adoption event from October 1 to October 15, where pets are specially priced with the intention of providing animals with loving homes.

All adoptable animals are included in the special. Pets over age 6 months are available for adoption at the cost of $50, and seniors have a waived adoption fee.

FWACC Public Information Officer Tyna Reiter said this is the third year that the National Empty the Shelters event is happening in Fort Wayne, and she said last year was a success for their organization.

BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event is the largest funded adoption event in the country. This event began in 2016 with a goal of encouraging more families to choose adoption over shopping. Nearly 283,000 pets have found loving homes since its inception. Empty the Shelters is BISSELL Pet Foundation's largest program, partnering with 742 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada to reduce adoption fees.

FWACC website includes information regarding adoptable pets and their locations, adoption requirements and an adoption application.
