Galella And Tonte Reach State Game/ Chris Tonte, Of Greater Pittston, Is Named Mvp Of The All-east Game

Steve Galella of Wilkes-Barre and Chris Tonte of Greater Pittston advanced
to the East-West Showcase Game, to be held July 24 at Riverside Stadium at
Harrisburg.
The two were the lone Wyoming Valley American Legion players to advance
from Tuesday’s All-East Game at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg.
Tonte was also chosen the Most Valuable Player of the event Tuesday.
Plains 10, Nanticoke 0 (5)
PLAINS – Bob Cirko had two hits and drove in four runs and teammate Michael
Ramirez added three hits and two RBI as Plains routed Nanticoke in five
innings.
Cirko hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Ramirez hit a two-run
single in Plains’ six-run second inning.
Chris Sedon allowed two singles and struck out seven to earn the victory.
Plains wrapped up the top spot for the WVAL playoffs, which are scheduled
to start Saturday at Artillery Park.
Plains will play the No. 4 seed – Greater Pittston, Plymouth or Hazleton –
at 1 p.m. That game will be followed by the No. 2 and 3 seed game, Nanticoke
vs. Greater Pittston, Plymouth or Hazleton.
Plymouth 4, Wilkes-Barre 2
PLYMOUTH – Al Clocker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored as
Plymouth improved to 14-8.
Kevin McGrath pitched six innings of five-hit ball to earn the win. Also
for Plymouth, Chris Mayerski hit 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Nick Bilski led Wilkes-Barre by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Greater Pittston 3, Tunkhannock 1
HUGHESTOWN – Ryan McDonnell doubled, homered, drove in two runs and scored
twice to lift Greater Pittston to the victory.
Lou Falzone added an RBI single for Greater Pittston (12-9), while Ryan
Mott scattered seven hits to earn the complete-game victory.
With the bases loaded in the first inning, Greater Pittston turned a
Tyler Austin took the hard-luck loss on the mound. He surrendered five hits
while striking out 11 and walking none.
Hazleton 7, Mountain Post 6
HAZLETON – Brett Ednie hit a two-out single to score Harry Hinkle in the
bottom of the seventh as Hazleton Area edged Mountain Post.
Mountain Post tied the score in the top of the inning on C.J. Mederios’
single.
Matt Kline pitched two innings of relief for the victory. Mike Bigatal hit
a two-run homer for Hazleton. Sean Landis added a solo homer.
Chris Wychock hit a three-run home run in the third to give Mountain Post a

Back Mountain 7, Plains 6
WILKES-BARRE – Mike Prater walked with the bases loaded and no outs in the
bottom of the seventh inning to force home the winning run for Back Mountain
in a WVAL Junior losers bracket game.
Back Mountain will play Wilkes-Barre at 5:30 p.m. today at Artillery Park
in the championship. If Back Mountain wins today, the teams will play tomorrow
in the finale. The teams split two games during the regular season.
Plains jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but Back Mountain
chipped away and finally took the lead at 6-5 when Chris Klaiss hit an RBI
double in the bottom of the sixth. Plains tied the game in the top of the
seventh when Jeff Hart hit an RBI double.
Pat Murray, Scott Skammer, Matt Ruch, Doug Harding, Joe Bevevino and Prater
had two hits apiece for Back Mountain. Ryan Koskey and Hart had two hits for
Plains.
