ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — Several Big Country residents woke up to the sound of strong winds, which left behind a path of destruction, including downed trees, powerlines, fences, and debris. In the Riveroaks-Brookhollow and Over Place Area neighborhoods, Abilene residents like Kathy Parish spent the morning cleaning up what was left behind.

"My husband already picked this stuff up (branches) from out of the street because he knew people couldn't get by. My cat jumped out of her skin and off the bed, and everything kept sounding like hail for a little bit," explained Parish.

A few houses down, Sandra Vannoy shared that the wind was so strong that some of her neighbors were without power.

"You can see the power line right there hanging. It knocked it off the back of their house when the trees fell down," added Vannoy.

At about 6:00 a.m., she heard a loud swishing sound and debris falling on her roof. When she came outside moments later, she was surprised to see a large tree uprooted and falling over the fence into her neighbor's yard.

"When I came back outside later, two large trees across the fence in my neighbor's yard were completely uprooted and broken. Many, many trees and limbs down in the neighborhood," said Vannoy.

Damages can be seen all across the Key City, like Highway 80 and Judge Ely, where what seems like a part of the roof blew off a building. AEP was seen driving around the impacted areas, helping restore power and cleaning up debris. Residents say the cleanup will take about a day or two.
