Gas prices in the Philadelphia market
A 10th straight week of a decline in the average price of regular in the Philadelphia market has been registered, with that average down 3.3 cents per gallon on Sunday to $3.22 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
The market average is 18.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 68.8 cents lower than a year ago.
It's still the fifth highest-price for a Sept. 23 of the past 11, but on a brighter note the lowest for the date since 2020.
The average is a calculation of nearly 1,000 gas stations in the market. Those stations ranged in price from $2.77 to $4.19, a difference of $1.39.
The bottom end of the range was down from $2.86 a week earlier but the top end was up 20 cents from a week earlier.
So, where is that $2.77 per gallon? Check the locator at www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/pennsylvania/philadelphia.
Maybe that station is nearby.
The average for regular in New Jersey continued down, in the past week by 5.9 cents per gallon to $3.02. There was just a slight dip in Wilmington of 0.7 cent to $2.98 per gallon.
The national average of regular was up 1.2 cents per gallon in the past week to $3.16. The national average is down 18.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and 67.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy.
The national average price of diesel declined 2.1 cents in the past week to $3.55, which is good news for commodities prices.
GasBuddy guru Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis, provides some explanation of the national picture: "With oil prices jumping after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a larger-than-expected half percentage point, we've seen some states where gas prices have inched back up, while others have continued to decline. Most of these increases should be temporary with declines returning in the days and weeks ahead."
