Gasoline prices continue to fall in our region
C.Chen3 hr ago
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - Gas prices around the region are at their lowest in 12 months and are expected to continue falling ahead of one of the biggest travel days of the year. "All the stations always seem to have the same prices. This particular station always seems to be a little lower," said Rick Gilbert of New York, who spent the day driving to Vermont with his wife to run an errand. Like many others, he's relieved to see lower prices at the pump. "I always come get gas if I'm over this way. It's better than paying three something... It just helps keep money in my pocket.")) The national average is down to just over $3, according to AAA. It's a bit higher in our region but still about seven cents less than a month ago and about 40 cents less than this time last year. In southern Vermont, customers are seeing prices dip well under $3. "I am at a loss to figure out how or why is so much cheaper here than it is in Burlington," said Diane Lanpher of Vergennes. Daniel Goodman with AAA Northern New England says it's all about location. "In the more rural states, is where we usually see a little higher price of gas. So, there is less competition among gas stations so in the more urban areas sometimes we see a lower price as there is competition among those gas stations," he said Prices are expected to stay the same until spring rolls around.
