GDOE: Chief Brodie passes inspection, no word on SHS inspection results

It's been a week since the superintendent's deadline to have all 24,000 students back on campus for in-person learning, however, two schools remain closed.

Guam Department of Education spokesperson Maria Tes Reyes-Burrier confirmed that Chief Brodie Memorial Elementary School has passed its sanitary inspection, however, the official report was pending as of Saturday.

GDOE has noted that once schools pass inspection, a 24-hour notice would be provided to the community before students head back to school grounds. In Chief Brodie's case, students will not return to campus until after the final report is received.

That leaves Southern High School, which is awaiting the final results of its reinspection, and Inarajan Middle School, which is still pending inspection.

Over the last couple of weeks, manpower and resources, including the governor's School Opening Readiness Team, have been at IMS getting it ready for inspection.

"With all the major improvements, repairs and attention shown by the governor's SORT crew, the campus is in a far better position to passing inspection and being safe for our children," Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero said on her Facebook page.

The governor noted that while they did what they could, the school still had issues to address.

"Although there have been great strides to the campus, some of the bigger remaining issues still require proper attention and maintaining by the Department of Education moving forward," the governor said.

Reyes-Burrier, however, did not have information on Saturday regarding the governor's statement.

Students at Southern High School and Inarajan Middle School continue learning online and through hard copy instruction.
