Geneva stormwater work continues
Nov. 2—GENEVA — Field work continues on a stormwater planning program designed to provide the city with a road map to meet flooding issues.
CT Consultants shared their early reports Monday evening during a city council work session, Geneva City Manager Joseph Varckette said.
During the last several years, numerous property owners have shared concerns regarding flooding in their neighborhoods and on their properties. The city secured a grant for the planning study, which is now underway.
CT Consultants has prepared a flood reporting form, assessed area streams and will soon be inspecting critical extent storm sewers, according to information provided at the work session.
The planning is expected to provide options on how to best proceed with stormwater issues. The goal is to eventually have an ongoing annual plan that can keep the city up-to-date on stormwater issues, Varckette said.
The planning will allow the city to make priorities and apply for other grants that can be used to pay for work to resolve the issues.
The projects should lead to improving public health, protecting property, and property values, improving and maintaining safety through management and conveyance of water run off that should reduce flooding.
CT Consultants will continue to work on assessing the storm sewer condition and prioritizing problem areas, the report indicates.
The final part of the planning will be to identify potential solutions.
