PORT BYRON - George M. Halstead, 93, of Port Byron, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024. He was born in Newark Valley, N.Y., December 12, 1930, son of the late William Halstead and Louise (Lockwood) Halstead.

He was a 47 year member of the Conquest Fire Department, and a 50 year member of the Fire Police. He enjoyed many years of traveling, gardening, flowers, and helping his wife Nancy with crafts and cooking. Prior to retirement he was employed at Dunn & McCarthy in Auburn, N.Y.

George is predeceased by his wife, and love of his life, of 40 years, Nancy J. Halstead (2021); brothers, Richard Halstead, and Clayton Halstead; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Lorene.

Survived by several nieces and nephews, Debbie Thomas, Linda (Ralph) D'Amato, William (Laura) Halstead, Sherry Perdue, Rick (Jennifer) Halstead, and Marilyn (Tom) Ferguson; great-nieces, Jennifer (Andrew) Anderson, Patricia (Eric) Pierson-Roberts; great-nephew, Matthew (Amy) D'Amato; sisters-in-law, Clara (Paul) Rothermich, Joyce Pethybridge, Paulette Woodruff, Sandy Niver; nieces and nephews on his wife's side, Frederick (Judy) Lytle, Dan (Milton) Cummins, Vickie (James Baker) Lytle, Anne (Jeremy Austin) Weller, John (Jennifer Strub) Lytle, Beth Barnaba, Amy Gridley, Sarah (Joseph) Campagna, Mark Rothermich; as well as survived by many great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Wilmer and Anna Mary Horning for their friendship and help over the years, as well as Roy and Eileen Traver, and Kim at Kinney Drugs.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Keysor-Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Cato, N.Y. A funeral will take place at 1 p.m., burial will be private at Victory Union Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow the funeral at Conquest Fire Department.
