Joe Biden broke a Republican streak held since 1996 when he beat Donald Trump by fewer than 12,000 votes in Georgia in 2020. That win for Biden happened in part because the state has diversified rapidly: The share of Latino voters in the state has doubled since 2008, Black voters make up a third of eligible voters and the Asian American and Pacific Islander population has grown by more than 50% since 2010. And the youth vote (ages 18 to 29) is particularly important: Georgia was the only swing state where the youth vote exceeded the nationwide youth share of the electorate in 2020.
