Mississippi State are set to meet in a conference showdown that isn't necessarily the juiciest matchup on paper. But both Bulldogs will want this one.

After suffering its first loss of the season against , Georgia is looking to continue its bounce-back. Meanwhile, Mississippi State had a bye week going into this contest.

According to lines listed by FanDuel, Georgia will open as a 34.5-point favorite over Mississippi State. The over/under point total for the contest is not currently available.

That sets the expectation going into the game: Georgia is expected to cruise, so long as everything goes according to plan. But they play the games for a reason.

Georgia goes into the game as a clear favorite, courtesy of the talented roster coach Kirby Smart has built over the last several years. The Bulldogs are loaded at virtually every position.

It starts with quarterback Carson Beck , who has been excellent throughout the year and showed a measure of unflappability in the big come-from-behind attempt against Alabama.

He's had a nice posse of skill position players to work with, led by running backs Trevor Etienne Nate Frazier and complemented by talented wideouts Arian Smith Dominic Lovett Dillon Bell . A handful of transfers at receiver and tight end haven't really made a huge impact just yet but are certainly capable.

Couple that with a very stout defense and the Bulldogs have a chance against anyone.

That's particularly true against Mississippi State, which has struggled mightily under first-year coach Jeff Lebby. Quarterback concerns have also plagued the Bulldogs.

An injury to Blake Shapen has forced Mississippi State to play backup Michael Van Buren , and he has struggled a bit in the early going. He's completing just 52.8% of his passes and has yet to throw for a touchdown this season.

The Bulldogs simply haven't had the firepower to keep up with the better teams on their schedule, and that might be tough to change this week against a very tough Georgia squad.
