Get a sneak peek of Blue Ivy's performance in Mufasa alongside mom Beyoncé

Blue Ivy Carter just can't wait to be queen ... just like her mom.

The daughter of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Jay-Z is making her feature film debut in Mufasa: The Lion King, the upcoming musical prelude to 2019's The Lion King . And the new trailer, which was released on Friday out of D23 Brazil, reveals a sneak peek at Blue Ivy's character, Kiara, the daughter of King Simba ( Donald Glover ) and Queen Nala (Beyoncé).

In the new footage (below), Kiara is shown alongside Rafiki (John Kani), who is telling her the legend of Mufasa (Aaron Pierre), who went from an orphaned cub to the king of Pride Rock after he meets a lion named Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), the heir to a royal bloodline who will go on to become Scar. While Mufasa and Scar ultimately become enemies, this film reveals via flashbacks how they actually grew to become brothers first.

Filmmaker Barry Jenkins , who previously won an Oscar for 2016's Moonlight and directed the critically acclaimed If Beale Street Could Talk, previously told Entertainment Weekly that Blue Ivy will not be singing in this musical.

"Blue Ivy doesn't sing in the movie. She is a thespian!" Jenkins told EW at Disney's D23 in Anaheim. "I've got to be honest about that. She is a thespian."

There will be new music for other characters, however, composed for the movie by Lin-Manuel Miranda . "For me, working with Lin was amazing," Jenkins said. "I've never made a musical before. So when I took the job, I knew that was going to be a part of it, but I just figured, 'We'll figure that out when we figure that out.' In a musical, we need to figure that out first!"

Jenkins was inspired to cast Blue Ivy after he heard her read the audiobook recording of Matthew Cherry's short-film-turned-illustrated-book Hair Love. "Starting this project and just having that in the ether, I was like, 'Is it worth a shot? Would Blue Ivy want to do it? Would Beyoncé want to act opposite her daughter? Is it too close to home?'" Jenkins previously told EW . "But once we put the question to them, they both responded with enthusiasm."
