Giants’ Brian Daboll, Wink Martindale are ‘in a bad place’ with lots of ‘tension’

Giants coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale are experiencing major tension in their relationship — late in just their second season together.

And that could lead to Martindale’s firing after this miserable season — or maybe during it.

That was word Sunday, before Patriots-Giants, from Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer .

Here’s what Glazer reported: “These guys are in a bad place. Bad place to the point where I don’t see them actually continuing their relationship after this season — maybe not even during this season. There could be a mutual parting of the ways. When I talk to people inside that organization, they’re saying the tension between these two, you could feel it. And it’s just getting worse. And it’s just odd that it’s happened, considering how much success they had last year together.”

The Giants went 9-7-1 last season and won a wild-card playoff game under Daboll, then a rookie head coach. Daboll made Martindale an important hire for his first Giants staff.

But this season, the Giants are 3-8 entering Sunday’s home game against the Patriots. Both their offense and defense have underwhelmed, though Daboll’s offense has been worse — partly due to quarterback and offensive line injuries.

Two games ago, in a catastrophic 49-17 loss at the Cowboys, Daboll and Martindale had an intense conversation at the end of the first half — and then coming out of locker room after halftime.
