Giants fly to Germany with more questions about NFL

R.Green3 hr ago

More changes are coming to the lowest-scoring offense in the NFL.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said before Thursday's practice in New Jersey that he did not expect wide receiver Darius Slayton (concussion protocol) to travel with the team to Germany.

And starting left tackle Chris Hubbard was a surprise absence at practice, seemingly signaling another change to Daniel Jones' offensive line.

Daboll has a couple options if Hubbard can't play:

He could reinsert backup left tackle Josh Ezeudu, who played one game after Andrew Thomas' season-ending foot surgery before being benched for Hubbard, a signing off the 49ers' practice squad.

Or Daboll could break glass, slide right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor over to left tackle and give former No. 7 overall pick Evan Neal the start at right tackle.

The Giants (2-7) are scoring a league-low 15.4 points per game in Daboll's first season as full-time playcaller.

The Carolina Panthers (2-7), Sunday's opponent in Munich, present an opportunity for the Giants to get right. The Panthers are allowing a league-worst 32.6 points per game to opponents.

But the Giants will be without Slayton, who is second on the team with 469 receiving yards. And there is no telling how Jones' pass protection will hold up.

The Panthers are allowing an NFL-high 159.3 rushing yards per game to opponents, so Carolina probably can expect a heavy dose of rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., veteran complement Devin Singletary and Jones on the ground.

Jalin Hyatt and Isaiah Hodgins should see increased opportunities at receiver with Slayton out.

Whether that will be enough for the Giants to win is the question. Both of these teams are in the hunt for next April's No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick.
