‘Giving Thanks Festival’ in Morgantown raises money for Asheville flood victims
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Musicians from around West Virginia gathered on Saturday to raise money for flood victims in Asheville, North Carolina at the Give Thanks Festival in Morgantown.
Held at The Encore, a music venue in Sabraton, different musical acts played for eight hours throughout the day joined by a small collection of vendors selling handmade items, artwork, clothing and coffee.
Compared to the more energetic music venues in Morgantown like 123 Pleasant Street or the Morgantown Art Bar , The Encore is a more low-key and subdued setting that event coordinator Grace Campbell said was perfect for the Appalachian and folk identity she wanted to emphasize for Saturday's event.
"As a musician [it] is so important when you're talking about your identity in music," Campbell said. "It's just one of those things that I think is really important to highlight, and when you're giving thanks for your community and for the arts in Morgantown, the stories of what's happening behind the scenes with these musicians is the important part. That's what makes it beautiful."

Campbell and her band were among the musicians who played during this year's Giving Thanks concert. A final tally of the total money raised for the event has not been made, but Cambell is hopeful they can raise at least $1,000 before the day is done.
