Glendon market draws vendors to Halloween-themed event
GLENDON – Kids and vendors alike got the chance to wear their Halloween costumes at the Glendon Halloween Market, where 33 vendors filled the RCMP hall with peanut butter marshmallow squares, carved walking sticks, cabbage rolls, resin art, croqueted stuffed goats, and much more.
Market manager Elizabeth Barker, aptly dressed up as the "Sunny Girl" farmers market mascot, was pleased with the vendor turnout, and noted that four of the vendors were students from the business class at Glendon School.
"We had a Halloweenp-themed market which included a small assortment of kids carnival games," explained Barker. "The games included a pumpkin race, ball toss, ring toss and a pick-a-skull game where kids won tickets to trade in to play prize games which included punch-a-pumpkin, and a Plinko games in which they won prizes that were donated by the vendors who attended the market."
The market aimed to make the kids feel involved, and Barker reports she even had kids from the Glendon All About Learning Daycare decorate the signs and bottles for the carnival games.
Barker feels that hosting farmers markets is an important way to celebrate local creators.
"It brings together everyone that works so hard to create beautiful pieces, and they get to share those pieces with the community. In super small towns like Glendon it definitely adds a nice unique shopping experience."
Barker said people enjoy coming and seeing the returning vendors and experiencing new vendors, including those who are just starting out.
Barker was excited to spread the word about upcoming markets, and to promote the new and returning vendors and said 16 vendors have already signed up for the next market.
"I have more to come this year," she said, adding a market was scheduled to take place on Nov. 1. "Then we will be running three more markets after that this year with extended hours for the Christmas shopping coming up."
