Gov. Abbott shares recent border security efforts

TEXAS (KAUZ) - The Office of Governor Greg Abbott has shared the recent efforts made by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard to secure the border.

The Office of the Governor said the efforts come with the additional task of stopping the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas; and preventing, detecting, and interdicting transnational criminal activity between ports of entry.

Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, the Office of the Governor said the multi-agency effort has led to over 525,800 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 48,500 criminal arrests.

Under Operation Lone Star, Texas National Guard soldiers continue to prepare and train for potential mass migration events along the Texas-Mexico border.

The Office of Governor Greg Abbott said that in El Paso, Texas National Guard soldiers are conducting mass migration response exercises along with state and local law enforcement to ensure they are ready to deter and repel any mass illegal immigration attempt.
