Governor Abbott highlights rising support for school choice in Texas
Governor Greg Abbott emphasized the increasing support for school choice in Texas during a media event at Kingdom Life Academy in Tyler. He discussed the future steps needed to provide every Texas parent with the option to select the best educational path for their children.
"School choice is wanted by all demographic groups in the state of Texas," stated Governor Abbott. He highlighted that "Hispanics and African Americans in the state of Texas, they strongly support school choice." According to Abbott, these parents desire options as they understand their children's needs better than any government employee and aim to guide them towards success. He asserted that "school choice improves educational opportunities for minority and low-income students."
Abbott noted that with recent election results, Texas is poised to offer school choice statewide while maintaining support for public schools and enhancing job training education. This initiative aims to prepare students for successful careers.
Joel Enge, Founder and Director of Kingdom Life Academy, expressed enthusiasm about Texas's shift towards school choice. "As a Black founder of schools, I can speak to the issue on how important school choice is for Black and Hispanic students in our communities," he said. Enge emphasized the necessity of school choice in providing practical education through institutions like Kingdom Life Academy.
Governor Abbott was joined by board members and teachers from Kingdom Life Academy, including an alumnus of the school. He referenced last night's election results as evidence of support for passing school choice legislation in the upcoming session. The Governor also proposed measures such as continuing full funding for public education, raising teacher pay and incentives, and enhancing job training opportunities.
Joel Enge has previously written about the importance of universal school choice policies advocated by national leaders, emphasizing benefits across diverse student demographics.
