LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has filed an appeal against the Federal Emergency Management Agency's decision to deny Arkansas a 100% federal cost share adjustment for recovery efforts following the May 24 storms in Northwest and north central Arkansas.

The appeal specifically addresses funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures under Public Assistance Categories A and B, according to a news release.

On July 11, Governor Sanders initially requested full federal coverage for recovery costs, following a Major Disaster Declaratio n granted by the President in response to the severe weather.

However, on August 21, FEMA denied the state's request for 100% federal funding.

As a result, impacted cities (such as Little Flock ) are now responsible for covering 25% of storm-related expenses incurred during the first 30 days of recovery under the Public Assistance program .

Little Flock denied FEMA funds, seeking appeal

"Arkansas communities are still recovering from last spring's tornadoes, with substantial repairs and debris pickup ongoing," Governor Sanders said in a news release. "To relieve the burden on these counties, cities, and towns, I am appealing FEMA's decision to deny Arkansas a 100% federal cost share."
