ncumbent state Rep. Phil Green has held off an Election Day challenge, winning his second term as the state representative for Michigan House District 67 , according to unofficial results.

With 74% of the votes counted, Green, who's from the Millington area, was projected as the winner by the Associated Press in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Green had collected more than 64% percent of the votes counted at the time of the AP projection.

Democratic challenger Anissa Buffin, chair of the Lapeer County Democratic Party since 2018, had collected more than 35% percent of the vote.

Green has served as an ordained pastor for 20 years. He won the redrawn 67th District state House race in 2022 after representing the 84th District prior to redistricting.

He defeated Republican challengers Sherri Cross and Sherry Marden in the Aug. 6 primary

Buffin, of Lapeer, is a quality specialist. She'd been unopposed in the Democratic primary, which includes the northeastern corner of Genesee County as well as part of Lapeer County.

Green told MLive-The Flint Journal in advance of Tuesday's election that he's embraced public service since he first had the chance to run for the state Legislature.

"I embraced that opportunity because it gave me the opportunity to serve my greater community and to be that voice for them in our government," Green said.

Buffin campaigned as an alternative for voters in a historically red district and promised to "lead for everyone, not a select few."
