Greensboro man charged with murder in 2023 shooting death

Homicide investigators on Friday charged a local man with the March 1, 2023, homicide of Lanceford Ross Williams, according to a news release from the Greensboro Police Department.

Travis Jamar Green, 29, faces a first-degree murder charge for the shooting death of Williams, 37.

Green was originally charged on March 1, 2023, with accessory after the fact to homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (among other charges). He has been in custody at the Guilford County Jail in Greensboro since that time, according to the release.

Police have notified Mr. Williams' next-of-kin about the arrest.

At about 5:03 a.m. on March 1, 2023, police were called to an area near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Carolyn Coleman Way in reference to an aggravated assault. Upon arrival on scene, officers located Williams suffering from a gunshot wound. Williams' exact time of death was not available.

No information about a possible motive or the weapon used was immediately available.
