Students in the University of Guam's LW-480 Criminal Justice Capstone class will host on Wednesday a public forum on Guam's war on drugs, bringing together a panel of experts to discuss the challenges and solutions surrounding the ongoing drug epidemic on the island.

The Nov. 20 forum will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, CLASS, Lecture Hall on the UOG campus.

The forum is a culmination of the LW-480 Criminal Justice Capstone class for the semester.

It is designed to foster an informed discussion on the social, legal, and law enforcement challenges related to drug-related crime on Guam.

The forum also allows students and the UOG community to engage with key leaders and stakeholders in criminal justice and public policy.

Panelists include:

  • Guam Attorney General Douglas B.K. Moylan
  • Superior Court of Guam Judge Maria Teresa B. Cenzon
  • Sen. Chris Barnett, 37th Guam Legislature
  • Guam Chief of Police Stephen C. Ignacio
  • Stephen P. Hattori, executive director of the Guam Public Defender Service Corp.
  • Erwin T. Fejeran, special agent with the Homeland Security Investigations
  • Through expert presentations and an interactive Q&A session, the panel will explore current strategies and future solutions for addressing Guam's drug epidemic, providing a comprehensive view of its impact on the community, according to the class.

The event is free of charge and open to the public.

Students, faculty, and community members are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.
