Guernsey fireworks led to 'lost and distressed' animals

An animal welfare charity has said that Guernsey fireworks this year have led to "lost and distressed" animals.

The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) said there had been "more private firework events over a longer period of time than in some years".

Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager, said: "This year we have been involved with and heard of a number of instances that have led to lost and distressed animals, owners and public due to the number of events."

The GSPCA and Guernsey's Lost & Found Pets are also asking islanders for their views on fireworks and their effect on animals.
