Guernsey project giving £10,000 grant for second year

Applications for a grant of £10,000 are being accepted by a Guernsey-based charitable project.

The grant last year was used to fund six high-performing desktop PCs at Guille-Alles Library, which helped "hundreds of islanders" to IT and internet access, staff said.

Dougie's Grant was set up in memory of local entrepreneur Dougie Le Huquet, who died aged 99 in 2021.

Mr Grant's daughter Michelle Knowles said it was her father's wish for project to be established to benefit local causes, such as the library.

She said applications were being invited from Tuesday until 31 October for the 2024 grant from registered charities which could clearly demonstrate a "specific named Guernsey-based project that the funding will benefit".

"The successful applicant will be announced on 19 December which was Dougie's birthday," said Ms Knowles.

"We are thrilled that Dad's legacy has already benefited two great Guernsey causes, and we are looking forward to hearing from charities initiating specific projects that would be aided by the 2024 award."
