Gurzynski tosses no-hitter for Northwest

SHICKSHINNY — Eric Gurzynski won’t be forgetting his senior day any time soon.
The Northwest senior closed out the regular season by throwing a no-hitter and striking out 15 in the Rangers’ 5-0 win over Wyoming Seminary on Thursday in WVC baseball. Gurzynski faced just two batters over the minimum, issuing one walk. Another hitter reached on an error.
Gurzynski added two doubles and an RBI for the Rangers (7-5). The Blue Knights finished their WVC season at 2-10.

The Hawkeyes (12-0) won their 40th consecutive league game to polish off a third straight unbeaten WVC season. Christian Pack, Nick Deno and John Wickiser all had three hits apiece as Hanover Area clinched the No. 1 seed in the District 2 Class 2A tournament.
Kyle McHale doubled for the Mohawks (4-8).
Hazleton Area 8, Lake-Lehman 0
Joe Baran and Ryan Heller combined on a one-hit shutout to move the Cougars (10-3) into a first-place tie with Berwick in Division 1. Sal Biasi finished 3-for-4.
Tyler Long singled for the Black Knights (3-9).
Nanticoke 11, GAR 0 (5 inn.)
Joe Olszyk threw a five-inning one hitter as the Trojans finished the WVC season at 9-3. Alec Norton hit two doubles and three RBI.
Joe O’Day had the lone hit for the Grenadiers (2-9).
