AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – With 47 days to election day, the Harris-Walz campaign continues to campaign across the state of Georgia.

Today, the wife of Vice President Harris's running mate, Tim Walz, visited Garden City.

Gwen Walz is campaigning in Augusta, speaking with educators, volunteers, and voters about the vision for the Harris-Walz campaign.

"We know Georgia matters, but more importantly, we want you to know that you matter, you matter," said Gwen Walz, First Lady of Minnesota.

Walz hosted the "Educators for Harris—Walz" event. She spoke about her and her husband's teaching careers and how they are not only for educators or their voters but everyone—even those who may not support them—because that's what teachers do.

"This is a celebration of teachers and students. This is a celebration of public education. You know, our goal today was to continue to highlight the work that Vice President Harris and Governor Walz has done to secure the future of public education," said Commissioner Jordan Johnson, Augusta-Richmond County Democratic Party Chair.

Educators were thankful to hear from her and are reminding other teachers to get out and vote.

"We must have leadership here at not only our local or our state but on a national level that is fighting for educators," said Timothy Lyons, an educator. "So, it's very important that educators get out and make sure that your voices are heard."

Attendees understand that it's important for leaders to support better education for students because they are our future.

"We start in our earlier years in life in school most of us in public school, a few of us otherwise, but it's the beginning for all of us," said Liz Johnson, Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives Ga. 12 District. "So, education is key, and it should be top-notch, top quality for everyone."

This was Gwen Walz's first time in Augusta and the first time in Georgia since Tim Walz was selected as Vice President Harris' running mate.
