Halle Berry Was 'Scared' As Van Hunt Romance Hit Three-Year Mark

Halle Berry has admitted she was "scared" when she hit the three-year mark with her boyfriend Van Hunt because her relationships never usually go further than that.

The Hollywood actress, 58, started dating the musician in 2020. But Berry confessed they had both been worried as they approached their third anniversary, because of how her love life had gone before they got together.

"We both were scared; he was waiting for the shoe to drop and I was waiting to drop the f****** shoe because I just can't get past that (three years)," she said on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast .

"This is the longest relationship I've ever been in, in my whole life," said the Never Let Go star, who has been married three times in the past. "I can't get past three years."

The pair have now been together for four years and Berry said that when they reached the anniversary they celebrated "like we had been married 20 years."

"That's how big it was for me personally," she explained.

"It's been such a relief, 'OK, yes I can do this relationship thing.' He is my person, you just know it. And calm. He is what I have been dreaming of, searching for, needing."

Oscar-winner Berry was married to former pro baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997, when they divorced. She tied the knot with singer Eric Benet in 2001, but their divorce was finalized in 2005. Then, she was married to actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016.​

Speaking about her past relationships, the actress said on the podcast: "I realized that I had just gotten into things for all the wrong reasons and it all became clear to me what those wrong reasons were at about three years."

She said that with Hunt, she got into the relationship "in a different way."

"That feeling never came because I didn't get into it for the wrong reasons," she explained. "I didn't even try to get into it.

"Unlike all the other ones I tried to get into, I made it happen, a bit manipulative if I'm honest. I wanted what I wanted. It didn't mean that it was right for me, but I wanted it."

Berry said Hunt came along when she wasn't trying to "manipulate it". "He just showed up," said the star.
