Halloween fun at Kenosha's Simmons Island Beach House

E.Martin3 hr ago

The Beach House at Simmons Island celebrates the Halloween season with Saturday and Sunday events.

The "Monster Bash on the Beach" Halloween dance party is 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19.

"You can 'dance 'til you drop'," said Meryl Strichartz, who reopened the landmark building this summer, "and also enjoy a spooky escape room, tarot card readings and festive food and drinks."

Sunday morning, the beach house hosts its Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with live music from "Chaine de Gitaine, playing jazz in a hot club swing style, inspired by Django Reinhart," Strichartz said.

Also starting 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, is "Howl-o-ween Bash," with a canine focus.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the party features a vegan Champagne brunch, plant-based food and craft vendors and live music at 11 a.m. with fiddler Georgia Rae. At noon is the pet costume parade and contest.

Vegan focus

"This family-friendly event will feature an outdoor vegan champagne brunch," Strichartz said. "Items such as breakfast sandwiches and biscuits and gravy will not contain any animal products for this special brunch. Attendees who are interested in the plant-based lifestyle will have a wide variety of food and treats to try throughout the day."

Vendors at this event will include:

JustVeggiez, a plant-based comfort food eatery.

Waterfront Warehouse, a Kenosha restaurant that offers vegan options

Mindful Baking, a Chicago-based vegan and gluten-free bakery that also takes part in the Kenosha HarborMarket.

"Animal lovers will also enjoy pet-friendly vendors such as Mastro Mutts, a local dog rescue that will have adoptable pups on-site, and TacoCat Creations, who will be selling cat toys and accessories," Strichartz said.

"Attendees can eat, shop and watch the pet parade while enjoying a festive atmosphere."

Sunday's highlight, she said, "is a pet costume parade and contest, starting at noon, with prizes awarded to the best-dressed pets. Everyone is welcome to watch the parade, which can be seen from the area surrounding the beach house."

It is free to take part ion the pet parade, but registration is required. Participants can fill out a Google Form by going to the this link: www.bit.ly/HowlOWeenPetParade .

The pet parade will be recorded by Kenosha Community Media for broadcast on Spectrum Channel 14 public access, KCM's Roku and YouTube channels, Strichartz said.

Jeni Ensslin, a local pet photographer, will also be at the event, offering pet photos for an additional fee.
