Hundreds of people lined both the Walnut Street bridge and Riverfront park Wednesday night to watch what is said to be 'the largest fireworks display in central Pa.'

The annual fireworks show at City Island ended the holiday by presenting it's explosive and colorful variety display as it illuminated through the skies of downtown Harrisburg around 9 p.m.

Many people even chose to get a closer look by taking their friends and family on a boat to watch directly from the Susquehanna River. Unfortunately, the fireworks show was cut short this year due to 'safety concerns,' according to Harrisburg Police.

Check out the gallery above for scenes from tonight display.
