‘Have the decency to come forward’: Father pleads with driver involved in east Las Vegas hit-and-run

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - While some gear up for weekend plans, one father will be spending his time next to his son in the ICU at University Medical Center.

His son, 36-year-old Pete Del Maro, is in critical condition after he was hit by a car last Friday near Charleston Boulevard and Mojave Road.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says the driver drove off.

"Oh my lord, oh my lord, it's hard, it's hard," Pete's father, Joe Del Maro, says. "Any dad that loves his children is going to feel pain, no matter what, that's their child."

Joe says his son is in a coma after receiving a trauma injury to the brain among other serious injuries.

He's asking the person responsible for hitting Pete to take responsibility.

"Whoever did this damage, whoever hit him needs to come forward, no matter the consequences," Joe says. "At least have the decency to come forward."

Pete's family, including his two children, live in Reno.

Joe says money is tight, and the rest of the family cannot afford to come visit.

Metro Police say there is no update in their investigation into who hit Pete as of Friday afternoon.
