VIRGINIA — A storm could dampen pre-Thanksgiving travel plans in Northern Virginia and DC. The National Weather Service is expecting a risk of isolated flooding in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan areas Tuesday evening.

A significant storm is taking shape in parts of the U.S. ahead of Thanksgiving, according to AccuWeather. In the DC region, that means rain throughout the day as many families head out to Thanksgiving destinations. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Northern Virginia, District of Columbia and parts of Maryland, including the I-95 corridor, Tidal Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.

AccuWeather meteorologists are expecting the greatest travel impacts from the storm to happen Tuesday to Tuesday night in the northeast with some lingering effects into Wednesday. Between rain, winds and poor visibility, travel on the roads could be hazardous and result in delays in much of the Mid-Atlantic's I-95, I-81 and I-80 corridors.

These conditions could also result in airline delays during the worst part of the storm Tuesday.

"The stiff east-to-southeast winds averaging 25-35 mph with gusts of 40-45 mph can pose a problem at some of the airports from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia and New York City with the worst conditions likely from late Tuesday afternoon to Tuesday evening," said Tom Kines, an AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

The National Weather Service's Baltimore-Washington Office said widespread rainfall with winds will impact inland and coastal areas on Tuesday. Areas on the western outskirts of Virginia could see ice accumulation up to two-tenths of an inch as a winter weather advisory is in effect .

Wednesday's weather should be an improvement on Wednesday as the storm moves north, according to Accuweather.
