‘He didn’t deserve this’: Mother seeks answers after son was killed in Albuquerque shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It's been two months since a 32-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in northeast Albuquerque . His family is still seeking justice after no suspects have been arrested.

"He was an amazing father, an amazing son, brother, uncle. He was the heart of our family," said Clyda Archuleta, mother of Jose Gonzalez. His family has been feeling his absence in the past two months since he was killed.

"I wake up every day asking why. Why my son? What, and we haven't gotten any answers at all," said Archuleta.

Police said Gonzalez was shot and killed while traveling in a vehicle near the intersection of Eubank Boulevard NE and Copper Avenue NE on September 15 around 12:27 a.m. Crimestoppers believe the suspected vehicle is a black Chrysler 300.

Gonzalez's mother believes someone has to know something, saying there are still no clear answers as to why her son was targeted.

"What I do know definitely is him and his friend and stepson were going down Eubank. I don't know what happened all of a sudden there is a black Chrysler that came up next to them. I don't know what happened between the two vehicles, and they start just shooting and my son was hit four times," said Archuleta.

Archuleta said her son loved living in Albuquerque and was well-loved in the community. "We [have] seen how loved he truly is and how well-known he is. I never met anyone that was mad at him or had anything bad to say about him," said Archuleta.

Archuleta describes her son as a hard worker and a loving father of seven children who should still be alive today.

"I want justice for my son. He didn't deserve this, we didn't deserve this. His children surely didn't deserve this," said Archuleta.
