Red Cross schedules lifeguard training courses
The Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has scheduled spring lifeguarding courses starting later this month.
Full certification lifeguard training will be held April 16-26 at the Catholic Youth Center, 36 South Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. Classes will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. each day except Saturday, April 21, when class will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no class April 20. Class size will be between six and 10. Registration is due by April 11, at the CYC.
A full certification course also will be held April 24-May 3 at Wyoming Valley West High School, 150 Wadham St., Plymouth. Classes will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. each day except Saturday, April 28, when class will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be no classes April 27, 29 or 30. Registration is due by April 11 at the Red Cross office, 256 North Sherman St., Wilkes-Barre. Class size will be between six and 10.
The cost for either class is $200.
Currently certified lifeguards can update their certification to new standards at either of two courses to be held at Wyoming Valley West High School.
One course will be held April 13-15. The other will be held May 4-6.
Classes will be Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The deadline to register at the Red Cross office is April 26 and the cost is $130.
A lifeguard instructor course will be held June 6-8, with classes held at the King’s College natatorium from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Register at the Red Cross office by June 4. The cost is $200.
A water safety instructor course will be held May 18-June 2. Deadline to register is May 16 and the cost is $200.
The chapter also sponsors learn-to-swim lessons for all ages, 6 months to adult. Lessons will be held at the Dallas Middle School, the Forty Fort pool and Moon Lake. Schedules will be announced soon.
